The Light After the Fire

Black Ember Press was born from a place of healing. After years of serving in law enforcement and witnessing both the pain and resilience within our community, I felt called to tell my own story and help others do the same.

Writing Permission to Break reminded me that our stories can be both heavy and holy; that breaking can be beautiful when it leads us home to ourselves. What started as a publishing imprint has grown into a creative space for storytelling through books, photography, and coaching.

Black Ember represents the light that remains after the fire—the glow that reminds us we’re still here, still becoming. This is a space built on memoir, empowerment, resilience, and community impact.

Our Core Values

What began as my personal healing has become a collective space for others to find their own light.

We stand for work that is authentic, soulful, healing, grounded, and inspiring.

At Black Ember Press, we believe in authentic storytelling that honors truth without compromise and healing through creativity, where words and images become paths to wholeness. We foster community and connection, guided by integrity and purpose, and embrace strength with softness—because true power lives in vulnerability and grace.

RASHIDA SAUNDERS

Healing through Story, Strength, and Softness

Every story holds the power to transform. Through truth, creativity, and connection, I help others discover that healing begins when we allow ourselves to be fully seen.

I’m Rashida Saunders, founder of Black Ember Press & Photography—spaces created to honor truth, healing, and human connection.

With more than sixteen years in law enforcement, I’ve learned that real strength lives in both courage and compassion. Through storytelling, photography, coaching, and community work, I help others see that healing isn’t about perfection—it’s about giving ourselves permission to grow, feel, and be seen.
